Intensive Study Programmes "Embedded food systems in territories"

Topics & activities
The 8-days Programmes will address a wide range of topics in the area of embedded food systems, e.g. regional and traditional food, slow food, food sovereignty, locality of the food chains, organic food and farming, food communities and many other aspects of embedded food systems, in the form of a range of educational activities. Students’ understanding of the topic and their expectations specified in the O1 survey will be considered during construction of the programme. During the study trips students will visit traditional and regional food producers and analyse various aspects of sustainability of the local food system and its embeddedness in the territory.
Emphasis will be put on action learning, strengthening students’ team working and communication skills, analytical and problem solving skills, creativity, entrepreneurship, intercultural competences and fluent communication in English. A strong focus on systems approach and techniques of problem oriented learning will make the programme innovative and socially oriented.
Students & their enrolment
Each partner selects 4 students (plus 2 for the reserve list) representing different backgrounds, corresponding to various aspects of the embedded food systems topic. Such a multidisciplinary approach will foster interaction of students from different academic disciplines and show them the complexity of the food system and the importance of analysing the studied topic from many different perspectives. Candidates need to complete an application form including a short motivation letter in English and pass an interview (in English) organized by contact persons of each partner university. Students’ motivation, language skills, a balance between a number of students representing different academic disciplines, as well as gender balance, are considered in the process of participants selection. On the basis of previous experience, the consortium decided to accept students from both B.Sc. and M.Sc. (exceptionally also Ph.D.) study level.
Introductory phase – GOODFOOD eLearning
The GOODFOOD ISP will be preceded by an introductory e-learning module (led by WULS). The module will give the students background knowledge and prepare them to the topics that will be more broadly studied and discussed during the ISP (see e-Learning modules & e-Learning materials for more details).
